2024 Capital Projects Overview

The City of Florence, through the Department of Risk Management, Procurement, and Capital Projects, has made significant strides in improving community infrastructure. Below is a summary of the completed, ongoing, and upcoming projects that enhance public services and facilities across the city.

Completed Projects (2024):

  • Utilities Payment Center: A brand-new facility located on Seville Street, providing residents with improved service for utilities payments.
  • River Heritage Trail & Amphitheater: Connecting River Heritage Park to the Singing River Bridge Overlook, this trail enhances the city’s recreational amenities.
  • Coffee-O’Neal Sportsplex Expansion: New ball fields, restrooms, concessions buildings, and parking facilities have been added to accommodate growing sports activities.

Ongoing Projects:

  • Downtown Parking Deck: A new six-story parking deck under construction to alleviate parking challenges downtown, offering modern facilities for residents and visitors.
  • River Heritage Maintenance Facility: A new facility supporting the maintenance of River Heritage Park and surrounding areas.
  • Pickleball & Tennis Complex at Veterans Park: Featuring 21 pickleball courts and 16 tennis courts, along with upgraded amenities like a clubhouse and pavilion.
  • W.C. Handy Recreation Center Renovations: A comprehensive renovation to modernize this important community recreation space.

Projects in Design Phase:

  • Demolition of the Old Downtown Parking Deck: As part of urban renewal efforts, the outdated structure will be removed.
  • New Florence City Hall Building: A planned state-of-the-art municipal facility to house city services.
  • Florence/Lauderdale EMA/911 Operations Renovations: Repurposing an existing building to enhance emergency management and response capabilities.
  • New East Florence Fire Station: Improving fire response times and service coverage for East Florence.
  • North Court Street & Irvine Avenue Roundabout: Traffic improvements designed to enhance flow and safety at this key intersection.
  • New Pier at McFarland Park Point: A new public pier for recreation and park activities.
  • McFarland Park Improvements: Enhancements to both the primary and RV areas, making the park more accessible and visitor-friendly.
