Cloyd Boulevard Fire Incident
Just before 5:30 a.m. on January 18, 2026, Engines #4, #5, #1, Ladder #5, and Battalion #1 were dispatched to an automatic fire alarm at Florence Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, located on Cloyd Boulevard. While en route, units were advised that additional calls indicated there was an actual fire at that location.
First arriving crews located a fire in a dryer in the laundry room of the facility and were able to quickly bring it under control. The fire was contained to the one dryer, but moderate to heavy smoke from the fire spread throughout that wing of the facility. Fire crews, along with facility staff and Florence PD, were able to evacuate affected residents to non-affected areas of the facility.
One staff member of the facility was taken to NAMC for treatment of smoke inhalation. No other civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Florence Fire Investigators and the Alabama State Fire Marshal's Office.

Hunstville Road Structure Fire Incident, 1/5/2026:
At 7:52 a.m. on Monday, 1/5/2026, Engines #1, #2, #3, Tower #1, and Battalion #1 were dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 2700 block of Huntsville Road (Engine #4, stationed nearby, was on another call and unable to respond). The first fire crews arrived in just over five minutes to find heavy fire and smoke showing from the residence.
Two residents were able to escape prior to our arrival by jumping from a second floor window. One male resident suffered severe smoke inhalation with a female resident sustaining minor smoke inhalation. These residents were treated on the scene by fire and AMR Lifeguard personnel, then transported to NAMC. The male resident was later flown to UAB for treatment of his injuries.
The fire was brought under control in approximately 30 minutes, with crews continuing to locate hot spots for the next hour before fully extinguishing the fire. No firefighter injuries were reported and the fire is currently under investigation by the Florence Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau, as well as the Alabama State Fire Marshal's office.
At present time it does not appear that there were working smoke detectors in the residence. We would like to remind everyone that having working smoke detectors in your home significantly increases your chances of escaping a home fire unharmed.
