Cart Placement for Trash Collection

Cart Storage: Carts may not be stored at the curbside and should be removed from the curb as soon as possible after collection. Carts should be stored in a designated area close to the residence.

Dead Animals: Dead animals will be picked up if placed curbside but Solid Waste employees will not come on private property for them.

Hazardous Waste: The City of Florence does not pick up liquids, paints, or other hazardous materials.

Medical Waste: Please contact this office (256-760-6495) or the Florence Police Department (256-760-6343) for proper disposal of these materials.

Carts and Maintenance

The City provides one 96-gallon garbage cart for each resident as well as a 65-gallon recycle cart as requested. For an additional fee of $41 each, residents can have up to three 96-gallon. Carts are the property of the City of Florence and will stay with the home if the resident moves.

  • Residents must maintain the cleanliness of the collection cart.
  • Bagging all waste helps maintain cleanliness.
  • Overloading and excessively hot materials will damage carts.
  • If your cart is damaged beyond repair, you will be held responsible and must pay the cost of a replacement.

Holiday Garbage/Recycling Collection
Garbage service is provided weekly.  Holidays that fall on Monday do not affect garbage/recycling collection. Holidays that fall on collection days will be made up.
