McFarland Park Set for Exciting Renovations with a $437K Land & Water Conservation Grant

Mayor Andy Betterton, Florence Council Members, and Florence Parks and Recreation are thrilled to announce that McFarland Park Campgrounds will soon undergo significant upgrades, thanks to a substantial federal grant of $437,073.32 from the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). This generous funding, which is part of a total project valued at $874,146.64, is a testament to the city’s ongoing commitment to enhancing outdoor recreation opportunities for residents and visitors. In a strong partnership with the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA), the project will include the construction of new RV camping pads, installing a stone fire pit, upgrading electrical service, and improving water and sewer hookups.

Campers will also benefit from new amenities such as Wi-Fi hotspots, an upgraded entry sign, and widened access roads. Additional improvements include landscaping, new picnic tables, grill stations, and firepit seating to create a more enjoyable camping experience. “McFarland Park is a beloved destination for our local community and visitors across the region. These renovations will make the park even more welcoming and enjoyable for everyone”, stated Mayor Andy Betterton, who expressed his enthusiasm for the project. “Thanks to the LWCF and ADECA, we can invest in this vital outdoor space and ensure it remains a top-notch destination for years to come.”

The City of Florence would like to extend its sincere gratitude to Beau Cooper with NACOLG for applying on Florence’s behalf, and Senator Tommy Tuberville, Senator Katie Britt, and Congressman Robert Aderholt, whose support was instrumental in securing this funding. Their continued commitment to improving Alabama’s communities will ensure that McFarland Park remains a premier spot for residents and visitors alike.
