Community Development
The Community Development Program utilizes federally-allocated formula funding to develop viable urban communities and expand economic opportunities principally for low and moderate-income persons. Our mission is to create a transformative impact in our neighborhoods, improve the lives of residents; and develop strategies that bring partners and resources together.

Strong partnerships make a strong community. 💙
The City of Florence has received $400,100 in ESG funding to support homelessness prevention, emergency shelter, rapid rehousing, and services for victims of domestic violence. We’re grateful to work alongside our local partners to support our neighbors in need. ⚜️The City of Florence has been awarded $400,100 in Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) funding to support individuals and families experiencing homelessness and domestic violence across our community.
This funding, administered through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA), will strengthen services such as emergency shelter, rapid rehousing, homelessness prevention, and support for victims of domestic violence.
Mayor Ron Tyler shared, “This funding represents a meaningful investment in the safety, stability, and well-being of our neighbors. We are grateful to the Alabama Legislature, Governor Kay Ivey, and ADECA, and we deeply appreciate our nonprofit partners who work every day to provide hope and assistance to those in need.”
Services will be delivered through trusted local partners, including SafePlace, Community Action Agency of Northwest Alabama, Salvation Army of the Shoals, and MOM’s Inc.
This is another example of what’s possible when strong partnerships come together to support our neighbors and build a safer, more resilient Florence.
