INSTRUCTIONS: It is the intent of the Florence Police Department to release property to the rightful owner whenever possible. In order to help us ensure property is not released prematurely or to the wrong person, please complete the following form in its entirety. Property no longer of evidentiary value, property ordered released by the court, or property associated with an expired period of safekeeping, will be released in a reasonable time. Once the release request has been processed, you will be contacted regarding further action. This process can take several weeks.
PLEASE NOTE: Items that were seized and/or recovered as part of a criminal investigation cannot be released until the case has been settled in court and/or the department has a court order to release the property. Under these circumstances, it may take a year or longer for property to be released.
FIREARMS RELEASE: All seized firearms/weapons, regardless of circumstance of the seizure to include safekeeping, are subject to an ATF background check. This check can take several weeks and you will only be contacted once the background check has been successful. A valid ID and proof of ownership is required for the release of all firearms unless approved by the evidence supervisor.
