Welcome to Deibert Park, a green oasis graciously donated to the people of Florence by Dr. Kirk R. and Lillian Cook-Diebert. Acquired in 1952, this expansive park holds not only natural beauty but also a rich history dating back to the antebellum era.
Historical Roots: The park’s land was once part of a large antebellum plantation owned by Judge Sidney Cherry Posey. In 1875, Charles Posey, who had previously worked these fields as a slave, purchased the farm from Judge Posey’s heirs. Charles and his wife, Amcy, later divided the land among their heirs, establishing the settlement known as Posey. Tradition holds that Charles Posey built a schoolhouse here, creating a historical landmark within the park.
