Parks and Recreation Department.

Our Mission Statement:

The City of Florence Parks and Recreation strive to provide creative, innovative programing that engages citizens of all ages, with all interest and abilities, which helps create community, through people, parks and programs.

We have a landscape spanning 1,200 acres, including the 600 acres that are maintained by our Parks and Recreation staff, that provide many recreational opportunities for residents and visitors to our area.

Facilities:

  • Recreation Centers: Explore the 3 recreation centers – Handy, Broadway, and Royal – serving as hubs for community engagement and activities.

  • Multi-Use Coliseum: An impressive venue hosting various large events and gatherings.

  • Senior Center: Catering to the needs and interests of our cherished senior community.

Outdoor Amenities:

  • Shelters/Pavilions: With 12 shelters scattered throughout scenic locations, offering both rented and non-rented options for gatherings and events.
  • Playgrounds/Fitness Courts: Enjoy 14 playgrounds and a fitness courts strategically placed across parks for active play and exercise.
  • Disc Golf Courses: Test your skills at 3 courses spanning 165 acres.
  • Blackberry Trail Golf Course: Spanning 160 acres, including lush wetlands for a serene golfing experience.
  • Cox Creek Skate Park: A 1-acre haven for skateboard enthusiasts.
  • Sportsplex: A sports enthusiast’s paradise featuring 8 softball, 5 baseball, 6 soccer fields, 4 turf fields, and 1 miracle field.

Recreational Highlights:

  • Veterans Park Memorial: A poignant tribute honoring our nation’s heroes.
  • Water activities: The Splash Pad at River Heritage Park or 2 pools located at Royal Avenue and Handy Rec Center.
  • Tennis and Pickleball Courts: With a total of 24 tennis courts and 6 pickleball courts spread across various parks.
  • Campground: Offering 60 slots for a delightful camping experience at beautiful McFarland Park.
  • Bike Trails/Walking Paths: Explore scenic trails at Wildwood Park, Deibert Park, Martin Park, McFarland Park, and River Heritage Park.
  • Canoe/Kayak Launch: Embark on aquatic adventures along Cypress Creek and at Wildwood Park.
  • North Florence Soccer Field: Catering to both large and small soccer field needs.
  • Practice Baseball/Softball Fields: Spread across various parks for honing skills.
  • Football Field: Veterans Park offers a dedicated field for football enthusiasts.
